DISCOVERY

THE FAUNA
The African savanna is one of the most iconic and biodiversity-rich ecosystems on the planet, home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife. Characterized by vast open spaces, tall grasses, and scattered trees, the savanna provides an ideal habitat for a multitude of species, many of which have become symbols of Africa itself.

Herbivores and Predators The savanna is also home to large herbivores like zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and antelopes. Zebras, with their unique stripes, and wildebeests, known for their spectacular migrations, are primary prey for many predators. Giraffes, the tallest of all mammals, feed on the leaves of tall trees like acacias. Antelopes, including impalas and gazelles, are agile and fast, adapted to escape predators. Among the predators, in addition to lions and leopards, are cheetahs, wild dogs, and hyenas. Cheetahs are the fastest land mammals, using their speed to hunt prey over short distances. African wild dogs, also known as painted wolves, hunt in highly organized packs and are known for their hunting efficiency. Hyenas, often seen as scavengers, are actually skilled hunters and compete with lions for food.
